Towards a sustainable and inclusive recovery: from ambition to action
— WTO Public Forum, 27-30 September 2022
This year’s Public Forum will focus on the contribution of trade to economic recovery after the pandemic. The Forum will examine, in particular, how to strengthen trade rules and improve public policies to create a more resilient, sustainable and inclusive trading system. The Forum has three sub-themes:
• Harnessing technology for an inclusive recovery
• Setting a trade agenda for a sustainable future
• Defining the future of trade
Speakers include:
– Ambassador José Luis Cancela, Permanent Representative of Uruguay to the World Trade Organization in Geneva.
– Ambassador Villalobos is currently the Permanent Representative of Mexico to the WTO.
– Tatiana Prazeres is the Director of the Department of Trade and Foreign Affairs of the Federation of Industries of the State of Sao Paulo (FIESP) in Brazil.
– Marcia Banda is the Head of the Inclusive Trade Department of the Undersecretariat for International Economic Affairs of Chile.
– Dora Rodríguez Romero is the Deputy Permanent Representative of Mexico to the WTO since July 2022.
– Javier Moreno Sánchez (born in Geneva, Switzerland), Head of the Spanish Socialist Delegation to the European Parliament. He is a member of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs, of the Committee on International Trade.
– Dr. Valeria Piñeiro is Acting Head of the Latin America Region and Senior Research Coordinator in the Markets, Trade and Institutions Division of the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI).
– Ekaitz Cancela, a graduate in Journalism, Creativity and Public Relations Theories from the University of the Basque Country (UPV / EHU), a Master in Philosophy of History from the Autonomous University of Madrid, and a PhD in Philosophy of Technology from the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya.
– Gabriela García Merchán, a member of the Foreign Service of Ecuador.
– Ricardo Treviño Chapa holds a degree in Finance from the Monterrey Institute of Technology (Mexico) and a Master in Global Banking and International Finance from the University of Birmingham (United Kingdom). With a career in the public sector spanning more than 20 years, he began working at the Institute for the Protection of Bank Savings.
– Sofía Boza, Ambassador of Chile to the WTO since July 2022. She has also coordinated the Structured Discussions on Investment Facilitation for Development. She was an associate professor and director of the Department of Rural Management and Innovation at the University of Chile, a professor at the Institute of International Studies at the same university, as well as an external evaluator of public policies for the Budget Directorate of the Ministry of Finance of Chile.
– Anabel González, Deputy Director-General of the WTO. Recognized global expert on trade, investment and economic development. She was Minister of Trade of Costa Rica, Senior Director of the Trade and Competitiveness Global Practice at the World Bank and Director of the Agriculture Division of the WTO.
– Josefita Pardo de León (Guatemala), member of the TRIPS team in the Intellectual Property, Government Procurement and Competition Division of the WTO Secretariat, where she is responsible for IP issues related to trade policy reviews and regional trade agreements.
– Marcelo Elizondo, member of the board of directors of the Argentine Chamber of Commerce and Services and president of ICC Argentina, is a recognized expert in international business.
