Manuel Rodríguez Becerra. Es Profesor Titular de la Facultad de Administración de la Universidad de los Andes y consultor internacional en política ambiental.
En la Universidad de los Andes fue Secretario General, Vicerrector, y decano de las facultades de Artes y Ciencias, y de Administración. Es Ingeniero Industrial de la Universidad de los Andes y B. Litt., en Estudios de Administración de la Universidad de Oxford.
Fue el primer ministro de Medio Ambiente de Colombia y Gerente General del Inderena (1990-1994). Presidió el Foro de Bosques de las Naciones Unidas en dos ocasiones (1996-1999 y 2004-2005), y fue miembro de la Comisión Mundial de Bosques y Desarrollo Sostenible. Es miembro del Consejo Asesor sobre Política de Bosques del Banco Mundial, y miembro del Comité Asesor del Ombudsman de la Corporación Financiera Internacional. Preside el Foro Nacional Ambiental y representa al sector ecológico en el Consejo Nacional de Planeación (2002-2010).

Es columnista de El Tiempo y autor de numerosas publicaciones. Libros más recientes: Editor, Gobernabilidad, instituciones y medio ambiente en Colombia (Foro Nacional Ambiental, 2008); con B. van Hoof, Desempeño Ambiental de la industria de palma de aceite en Colombia (Fedepalma, 2004); con Martha Cárdenas (Eds.) Manuel Rodríguez Becerra is Professor of Environmental Policy and Public Management at Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá and works as Senior International Consultant on issues of environmental policy.Previously, he was Academic Vice-President and Dean of the Faculties of Management and of Arts and Sciences at his home university. He holds a degree in Industrial Engineering from the Universidad de los Andes and a Master’s Degree in Management Studies from Oxford University.

Prof. Rodríguez was the very first Minister of Environment in Colombia (1994) and Chairman of INDERENA between 1990 and 1994. From 1996 to 1999 and from 2004 to 2005, he presided the United Nations Forum on Forests and was member of the World Commission on Forests and Sustainable Development. Currently, he is a member of the World Bank Forest Adviser Council and active participant of the Ombudsman Consultant Committee of International Finance Corporation, as well as Chair of the National Environment Forum and representative of the ecological sector at National Planning Council (2002-2010) in Colombia. He has published extensively on Latin American environmental topics: The Environmental Future of Colombia(Uniandes, 2002); Environmental Management in Latin America and the Caribbean (BID, 2002); Governability, Institutions and Environment in Colombia (Environmental National Forum, 2008).

On the occasion of teaching a seminar as a visiting professor at our University, Prof. Rodríguez Becerra kindly agreed to give a public lecture, honoring the HSG as a whole and sharing with us his extensive knowledge on ecological administration and politics.
