The Nestlé Needs YOUth and the Alliance for YOUth Initiative
On the 15th November in Athens, I officially launched the Nestlé Needs YOUth initiative. I am writing to give you more details about this initiative and to introduce the Alliance for YOUth.
In Europe, unemployment among young people has reached unprecedented levels. Europe has an ageing population and record levels of debt – we need our young people being trained and in work. No single element of Society can solve this problem alone but I strongly believe that the private sector has an important role to play. It is for this reason that we have established the Nestlé Needs YOUth initiative.
The Nestlé Needs YOUth initiative has 3 parts –
• Nestlé will offer jobs to 10,000 people under the age of 30 by 2016.
• Create a further 10,000 traineeships and apprentice positions.
• Improve “Readiness for Work” to help young people to be better prepared for the workplace. We will mobilize Nestlé employees to provide support at events in schools and colleges as well as at Nestlé sites, to help youngsters with interview preparation, CV writing and to understand the company workplace.
With our work, Nestlé will make a difference but I am convinced that by working together with our business partners our collective efforts can have a much bigger impact. That is why we have established the Alliance for YOUth. This programme will allow us to link Nestlé’s activities with those of our partners to help tackle Youth Unemployment in Europe.
Members can contribute in one or all of the following ways –
• Direct recruitment of new hires.
• Strengthen apprenticeships and traineeships.
• Establish “Readiness for work” programmes for young people.
• Join your existing initiative to this programme by sharing best practices and combining activities.
